Why Mountain Atlantic?

People ask what lies behind our name.

We’re inspired by the story of the Green Mountain Boys, a group of American Revolutionary War-era patriots who called Vermont home. Led by Ethan Allen, his brother Ira Allen, and their cousin Seth Warner, the Green Mountain Boys were responsible for several key moments in the war. They delivered America’s first victory by capturing and holding Fort Ticonderoga in 1775.

They also played important leadership roles in the creation of modern-day Vermont. When the British decreed that their land should become part of New York, the Green Mountain Boys resisted. In fact, Vermont was an independent republic for 14 years before becoming the 14th state in the United States.

What distinguished the Green Mountain Boys most, however, was their love of individual liberty and their willingness to do whatever it took to have the right to make their own decisions.

Along with this, we have a strong connection to New England’s coastline, where the Atlantic Ocean beautifully and forcefully shaped it’s historic character.
